Because Specifications Grading is different than traditional grading, I’ve found that constant reminders and updates are essential to help learners stay on track. Here’s what I am learning about this work.
Up-Front Bundle Reminders
I created a colorful bundle visualization in an easy-to-find “Course Reference” module in Canvas so students could access the information quickly. One student shared that they liked how it was a “syllabus lite” page that had all of the crucial information in one place. I found myself referring to it often.
Weekly Progress Reminders
Just like when playing a board game, it helps to know how far you’ve come during the semester and how much is left. I create a “This Week” page in Canvas every week of the semester with reminders on how many assignments are left in each bundle. It took some work to create, but it’s set for the next time I teach the class.
